Author: Dave Sprint
Android is open source OS means each one can download it and can use it to make smartphones and tablets.
There are a few versions of Android which are currently being used to build devices. The first one is Android Froyo 2.2, the fist device based on it was introduced in early 2008 and since that time, we can say that Android stated to gain massive popularity across the globe.
After it, Google released Gingerbread 2.3 version, which is one of the most popular nowadays. There are a number of devices available today. Toady most of mobile making firms are using this version to develop their devices including Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony. It has gained lots of attractiveness from users and due to the biggest success of it; Google has started to roll out to integrate lots of new features to Gingerbread. It is the first version of Android OS which gives lots of battle with Apple iOS. However, it is still widely used to make both tablets as well as smartphones.
After getting massive success from 2.3 Gingerbread, Google launched Honeycomb 3.0 version but it is only used to design tablet PC. Toady honeycomb is running on several tablets including Samsung and Motorola. The Motorola Xoom was the first tablet, went on sale in February 2011. After receiving some more standing in market, the company released an advanced and upgraded version, called honeycomb 3.1.
Now it’s a time of latest one, which is the latest and last version of Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. The search giant launched ICS 4.0 on October 19 and today most of mobile creators are making their devices using this version. The main boon of Android ICS 4.0 is that it is used to develop both smartphones and tablets, like Gingerbread 2.3. Today, ICS is the hottest mobile platforms in the world. The Galaxy Nexus is the first device to bought Android ICS 4.0. But I know in coming 2 or 3 month, there will be lots of ICS powered devices available in the market.
For now, we know Android ICS is still hot in the market and only few devices offer the Android ICS 4.0 and I have heard about upcoming version of Android OS, which might be known as the Jelly Bean 5.0. But I am pretty sure about it; Google will not release it until 2013 because ICS is still new and hot. There are lots of rumors circulating on the web and claiming that Google to release Android Jelly Bean 5.0 this year.
Dave Sprint is working with outsourcing Android app Development Company. He would like write for Tech Blog and share latest info about Android OS; here I have covered current Android versions & Android Jelly Bean 5.0.
